Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery Inc. is a major non-government organisation employing over 100 staff to provide specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) services to more than 2000 clients per year. Windana, operating since 1984, works with people to address the drivers and impacts of problematic AOD use, providing a responsive, integrated and holistic approach to recovery. Windana delivers evidence-based programs incorporating complementary treatment services to individuals and families that assist them to recover from the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. We use a comprehensive, responsive and integrated approach to recovery, utilising traditional medicine, pharmacology, psychological and natural therapies to achieve treatment goals for our clients.

Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery Inc. is a leading Victorian-based drug and alcohol treatment organisation.

For more than 30 years, we have been helping people rebuild their lives in a safe, caring environment, supporting our clients wherever they are in the recovery process. 

The Senior Harm Reduction Practitioner (SHRP) will work to enhance harm reduction responses for overdose prevention across Windana residential and non-residential services and across AOD services in the Bayside Catchment. This will be achieved through a working partnership with Star Health.

This position will work specifically with clients who experience high risk of overdose through substance use behaviours and challenges while engaging in the treatment process. The target population is people engaged in the AOD treatment system across the Bayside Catchment.

The SHRP will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, aligned with the care and recovery service model. The role will work alongside the residential withdrawal, non-residential services at Windana.  A key feature of the position is the promotion of client access to naloxone for the reversal of opioid overdose.  

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor degree or higher qualification in a relevant health science field is highly desirable
  • Cert IV AOD
  • Train the trainer certificate (desirable)

In return, Windana will offer you a salary circa $79k plus super plus optional salary packaging.  Your work will be both challenging and rewarding and you will be able to see the difference your input makes to our clients on a daily basis.

This position may require some after-hours work.

VOLUNTEER with Windana Health & Healing

Volunteer with Windana Health & Healing and support the complementary therapies services provided by one of Victoria’s most respected Alcohol and Other Drug recovery organisations.  We have multiple opportunities available in each of the following roles so, whether you can join us each week or each month, please register your interest by Friday 6 April 2018 by sending your resume and a covering letter/email to jen.rollings@windana.org.au

 Naturopaths & Students of Naturopathy

Minimum Bachelor Degree qualified Naturopaths with at least 2 years clinical experience, an interest in mental health and good knowledge of drug-herb-nutrient interactions.  We are also looking for people with a special interest in food-as-medicine.  Multiple opportunities available at both St Kilda (Thursdays or Fridays) and Maryknoll (currently Tuesdays or Wednesdays) in both clinical and non-clinical roles.

If you are a student of Naturopathy we have opportunities for dispensary assistants at both our St Kilda (Tuesdays or Fridays) and Maryknoll (Wednesdays) locations.  You may also be interested in assisting in the development of evidence-based literature.

Remedial Massage Therapists

We are seeking minimum Diploma qualified Remedial Massage Therapists to work within our community clinic in St Kilda.  Opportunities available currently on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Registered Acupuncturists & Students of Chinese Medicine

Acupuncturists who are registered with the Chinese Medicine Board/AHPRA are invited to join a team of volunteer Acupuncturists at St Kilda (Tuesdays or Saturdays).  We also have potential opportunities for volunteers in regular Auricular therapy groups at St Kilda, Dandenong and Maryknoll.

Students of Chinese Medicine interested in current research may like to assist in the development of evidence-based literature.

Administration Assistants and Receptionists

People with experience in administration are required to manage reception for community clinics and assist with the completion of various administration tasks.  These roles are currently available on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings (4 hours per clinic).

Remedial Massage Therapist with Respected Community Organisation

Windana Health & Healing is seeking a Remedial Massage Therapist. This is a great opportunity to work in an established health clinic in St Kilda and make a contribution to a vibrant not-for-profit health organisation. This may suit you if you are a new graduate wanting a range of experience to add to your resume or an established practitioner with a passion for community care.

Windana Health & Healing is part of Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery. We provide low-cost complementary therapies to the general public and Windana clients.

The successful applicant will be a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, and an Australian resident with professional indemnity insurance, professional association membership, and be registered with major private health funds. This position is subject to a police check.

This position commences at one day a week with the opportunity to increase days. It will be paid on a commission basis, with equipment, linen and reception support provided. There is a significant existing client base including onsite Windana staff and management as this is an established and valued service.
