Windana, operating since 1984, works with people to address the drivers and impacts of problematic AOD use, providing a responsive, integrated and holistic approach to recovery. The Women and Families AOD Case Worker works to reduce AOD related harms to women and families with multiple and complex needs by providing case management, AOD interventions and outreach support. This dynamic role will work with both individual women and people who are parents or carers of children to assist in the provision of skills to prevent relapse and support the acquisition of knowledge, skills and motivation to initiate change and improve quality of life.

Mandatory for this position is a qualification in social work, family therapy, a Diploma in AOD Studies, AOD and Mental Health or counselling, or relevant university qualification.  For those with a degree level qualification or higher, the AOD Certificate IV Core Competencies or the capacity to complete studies whilst in employment is required.  Key to your success will be your ability to provide:

  • Alcohol and other drug interventions
  • Family/child focused case management,including advocacy and support
  • Group programs
  • Co-ordinated care team approaches with clients with multiple and complex needs.
  • Interventions within an outreach practice model

The position is available full time and based in St Kilda but may be required to work at any Windana site.

Assistant AOD Program Manager – Youth Withdrawal and Non-Residential Withdrawal Services

The Youth Residential Withdrawal Service is a 6 bed residential facility located in Dandenong and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.  The youth withdrawal unit offers a homelike environment for supported withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.  This may include medical and non-medical withdrawal and pharmacotherapy.

The Non-Residential Withdrawal Services are located across a number of metropolitan and rural catchments including Geelong, Berwick, Dandenong and Frankston/Mornington Peninsula.  These services are predominantly facilitated by registered nursing staff and supported by case workers and provide a safe, short to medium term withdrawal in the community.

The Assistant Manager Youth Withdrawal and Non-Residential Withdrawal Services is the Registered Nurse responsible for the day to day operational and clinical management of the 6 bed Windana youth residential withdrawal unit and the non-residential withdrawal services.

The purpose of the role is to lead, direct and coordinate interdisciplinary care for clients from referral through assessment, admission and discharge. 

Qualifications required: current registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Post Graduate qualifications in AOD and/or Mental Health, Senior First Aid certificate.

This is a full time position, salary circa $89k plus 9.5% super plus optional salary packaging.  Evidence of qualifications must be provided at interview and all preferred candidates are subject to a National Police Check.

Psychologist / Mental Health Nurse / Dual Diagnosis Clinician

The Dual Diagnosis Clinician will work to improve dual diagnosis responses across Windana residential and non-residential withdrawal services and community service programs. This position will specifically work with those clients who experience high levels of disadvantage and vulnerability as a result of mental health and problematic substance use.

The Dual Diagnosis Clinician works as part of an interdisciplinary team alongside the residential withdrawal, non-residential withdrawal and community service teams at Windana.

Specifically, the Dual Diagnosis Clinician shall provide a range of services including:

  • Provide specialist dual diagnosis primary consultation assessment, treatment planning and monitoring at any point during the client’s treatment journey in partnership with the treating team
  • Provide a CBT based brief intervention model of care to identified clients, and other therapeutic interventions as required.
  • Improve the referral potential for clients on exit from Windana and improve pathways and ensure a seamless interface between internal Windana programs and external programs
  • Provide specialist dual diagnosis secondary consultation and mentoring to program staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated care plan and discharge plan
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of dual diagnosis professional development opportunities for staff across the program areas
  • Provide specialist Dual Diagnosis skills and resources in the development, implementation and evaluation of contemporary residential withdrawal & community programs including client focussed group interventions
  • Promote and maintain the existing organisational commitment to risk assessment and management for dual diagnosis clients

Mandatory for this position is Psychologist or Registered Nurse Division 1 with mental health qualifications and registration with AHPRA.

The position is a part time (30.4 hour per week) role with salary circa $84k (pro rata for part time) plus optional salary packaging which adds about 10% per annum, plus 9.5% super.  In addition, Windana provides an excellent suite of support for staff including comprehensive training, supervision and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Volunteer Yoga Instructor

Windana Health & Healing has two volunteer positions for qualified Yoga instructors to teach classes at Windana’s St Kilda location.  Each teacher’s commitment would be to conduct one class every four weeks on a Tuesday night from 6.30 pm.  Applicants are required to have at least 200 hours of teacher training and a current first aid certificate.  Working with Children and Police checks will be required.

Windana offers medically supported withdrawal programs in addition to its pioneering evidence-based, non-medical treatment programs. For Windana, effective recovery is about offering choices for people to take their lives in new, positive directions.

The Registered Nurse has responsibility for providing clients with alcohol and/or other substance use a safe, supportive and holistic environment to undertake a supervised withdrawal within a residential setting. Additionally you will:

  • Provide initial and ongoing bio psychosocial nursing assessment of clients admitted to the adult withdrawal unit
  • Liaise with relevant agencies including General Practitioners, hospitals and other service providers as necessary
  • Facilitate clinical interventions for clients including withdrawal scales, safe and timely administration of medication, urine drug screening etc
  • Monitor clients physical withdrawal symptoms and advise treating medical staff appropriately
  • Participate in group and individual interventions, case management and multidisciplinary reviews, clinical case notes, clinical administrative tasks and data entry
