Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery Inc. is a major non-government organisation employing over 100 staff to provide specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) services to more than 2000 clients per year. Windana, operating since 1984, works with people to address the drivers and impacts of problematic AOD use, providing a responsive, integrated and holistic approach to recovery. Windana delivers evidence-based programs incorporating complementary treatment services to individuals and families that assist them to recover from the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. We use a comprehensive, responsive and integrated approach to recovery, utilising traditional medicine, pharmacology, psychological and natural therapies to achieve treatment goals for our clients.

In Moe, the Group Facilitator/Community Facilitator works in partnership with Latrobe Community Health Services (LCHS) to facilitate a Therapeutic Day Program in Moe, a 6-week manualized program based on the original Windana Day Program.  In Maryknoll, the position works as a Community Facilitator with responsibilities including case management, group facilitation – education and therapy and relapse prevention.

The position requires mandatory Certificate IV or Diploma in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Mental Health or Counselling.  

Salary $69-71k depending on experience, plus super plus generous salary packaging.

Windana offers medically supported withdrawal programs in addition to its pioneering evidence-based, non-medical treatment programs. For Windana, effective recovery is about offering choices for people to take their lives in new, positive directions.

The Registered Nurse has responsibility for providing clients with alcohol and/or other substance use a safe, supportive and holistic environment to undertake a supervised withdrawal within a residential setting. Additionally you will:

  • Provide initial and ongoing bio psychosocial nursing assessment of clients admitted to the adult withdrawal unit
  • Liaise with relevant agencies including General Practitioners, hospitals and other service providers as necessary
  • Facilitate clinical interventions for clients including withdrawal scales, safe and timely administration of medication, urine drug screening etc
  • Monitor clients physical withdrawal symptoms and advise treating medical staff appropriately
  • Participate in group and individual interventions, case management and multidisciplinary reviews, clinical case notes, clinical administrative tasks and data entry

Family Program Caseworker

 For over 30 years the organisation has been providing specialist holistic and client-focused recovery services.  Clients choose, depending where they are in the recovery process, from a range of supportive community based and residential programs that are delivered in a safe, supported and caring environment.

 Based in St Kilda (with regular travel to our other sites) as part of the Family Program, the Caseworker operates within an outreach practice model working with families affected by alcohol or other drugs.

The program provides participants with effective parenting strategies in a culturally sensitive manner, whilst assisting participants to reduce their substance use, strengthen their parenting capacity and family functioning, reduce isolation of parents and children.

In order to be successful in this role you will have a demonstrated knowledge of problematic alcohol and other drug use and experience in working in the alcohol and drug field.  Additionally you will have demonstrated experience in working with families and children with complex needs and an ability to work in an outreach capacity.

Mandatory for this position is a relevant qualification in Health or Social Sciences and Cert IV in AOD.

The position is available full time with salary circa $69k plus super plus generous salary packaging.

  Naturopath - Volunteer

Windana Drug & Alcohol Recovery has the opportunity for a qualified Naturopath to volunteer at our St Kilda based Windana Health & Healing Program.

This exciting opportunity will involve:

  • Consulting with clients in our Community Clinic
  • Running Naturopathic groups where and when required
  • Assistant the Team Leader with the running of the dispensary
  • Various other administrative and supportive duties to the Team Leader in a Naturopathic capacity

At least 2 years’ experience along with appropriate first aid, insurance and association membership is mandatory for this role

The role will be one day a fortnight on Thursdays 10am – 2.30pm and based at our St Kilda clinic.
