Windana and TaskForce have merged into a single organisation – click to learn more about this positive change for clients and the community.

News from the Youth House

It has been a busy time at Windana Youth Community House (WYCH) where we focus on early intervention for young people between 12 and 21 years. Team Coordinator Kylie Weiss has been working to strengthen several groups held at WYCH. WYCH targets diverse areas of support including legal issues, wellness and music therapy.

A Community Development Worker from the Springvale Monash Legal Service now attends WYCH fortnightly to educate WYCH clients on their legal rights with police and protective services officers. These sessions provide more than education – they are a safe place where participants can share the legal issues they are facing and get help. Thanks to the Springvale Monash Legal Service, a law student has also joined these sessions. Together, they are providing vital legal advice and referral information for legal representation if required.

WYCH’s “Active Body Healthy Mind” personal training program has been a popular part of the WYCH timetable. We have a new personal trainer offering these sessions twice a week, and this has boosted the numbers of young people attending to enjoy activities such as stretches, boxing, weights, cardio, basketball, pilates and yoga. Clients receive a full physical health assessment before starting their first training session, and all programs are designed to suit each client.
