Windana and TaskForce have merged into a single organisation – click to learn more about this positive change for clients and the community.

Supporting International Drug Overdose Awareness Day

On August 31, the 17th annual International Overdose Awareness Day, a coalition of 13 not-for-profit community health organisations from St Kilda and surrounds including Windana, Star Health, First Step, Sacred Heart and Access Health will come together for the World’s Largest Overdose Prevention Training Session at the Port Melbourne Town Hall. Co-hosting with the Penington Institute, the World’s Largest Overdose Prevention Training Session is a free community event that will feature remembrance, hands-on Community Overdose Prevention and Education (COPE) training with multiple trainers as well as time to share food, drink and celebrate resilience. Join the Facebook events page here.

As part of IOAD on August 31, throughout Australia, people from Alice Springs to Coburg, Ballarat to Dandenong, will congregate to remember loved ones lost to drug overdose. On the day, a dynamic program of events has been designed not only to remember loved ones, but to raise awareness, fight stigma and work to reduce the risks of overdose in our communities. It is a day for advocacy and spreading the message that overdose death is preventable. International Overdose Awareness Day founder Sally Finn said the event is one of hundreds being held all over the world and will be equal parts commemoration, capacity building and a call for direct action on the escalating rates of avoidable overdose deaths occurring across Australia.
