Windana 2030: Our Plan for Impact

Windana is proud to release its new strategic plan, Windana 2030: Our Plan for Impact. It presents a new pathway towards our vision of thriving people and communities, living stigma-free, with access to health and support services for all.

Over 40 years ago, Windana was established by a dedicated group of people who saw the need to provide alcohol and other drug services in a different way to meet the needs of clients. Like Windana today, they were guided by lived experience and driven by the ambition to deliver services in a dignified way resulting in lasting and meaningful change for people impacted by alcohol and other drugs. That culture of innovation and client-centred, trauma informed service delivery continues to this day.

While Windana’s dedication to having a positive impact remains steadfast, the world we operate in has changed over the last 40 years. Substance use patterns are changing and are increasingly intertwined with other challenges including family violence, mental health, the justice system and social disadvantage. Demand is higher than ever. The evidence base – and our own expertise – continues to evolve. All of this, combined with the systemic challenges and structural inequities faced by the people we support, means Windana needs to be more flexible, responsive, and forward-thinking than ever before.

Equitable access to alcohol and other drug services is at the heart of Our Plan for Impact. A plan that presents, in four Impact Areas, the pathways we’ll follow to do things differently to achieve better outcomes for the people facing substance use challenges, often intertwined with other issues including family violence, mental health, the justice system, and social disadvantage.

What’s new?

Windana 2030: Our Plan for Impact includes:

  • Our new vision statement.
  • Our new purpose statement.
  • Six new principles that demonstrate how we work with clients, with partners and with communities.
  • Our very first theory of change called Pathways for Change.
  • Four new Impact Areas summarising what we plan to do over the next four years and how we’ll know we’ve been successful.

As we work towards the more equitable future outlined in our vision, we will continue to be guided by lived experience. The insights of the people, families, carers and supporters who have walked these pathways have been integral to the creation of this plan and will continue to guide its implementation.

We are genuinely excited about the pathways we have mapped out in Windana 2030: Our Plan for Impact. We are looking forward to sharing our impact over the next four years and working together with our partners – current and new – to work towards a brighter, more equitable world.
