What is Navigator?
Navigator is a program here to help young people reconnect with education.
This can mean going to school, becoming a trainee or starting an apprenticeship. It depends on each young person’s goals!
The Navigator program also includes courses that give young people skills to get jobs and feel confident about their education.
How can Navigator help me?
In the Navigator program, a member of our team can work with you to:
- Set goals you want to achieve
- Come up with a plan to for you to connect with school, get some training or even start an apprenticeship
- Access other services that may be helpful, including Centrelink for income support.
We also listen to you and can help work through issues you’re going through to do with family, friends, school and more.
Our Navigator team provides outreach support – which means we catch up with you somewhere you feel safe and comfortable.
To learn more about Navigator, you can watch interviews with other young people from around the state who have been in the Navigator program!
'About Navigator' - A video from the Victorian Government
Is Navigator for me?
Navigator is for young people aged 12 to 17 years old who have missed more than 70% of a previous term at school, or have been very disconnected from school for at least one term.
Windana provides Navigator for young people who live in or are enrolled in a school in:
- Cardinia Shire Council
- City of Casey
- City of Greater Dandenong.
Anyone can refer a young person to Navigator, and in most cases they will need to get a parent or carer’s consent. We also strongly encourage that the young person is made aware of the referral and supports it.
More information about referral is available by calling us (Windana) on 03 9532 0811 or visiting Department of Education website.
If your home and school isn’t in the areas where we work, you can still do navigator with another organisation. Visit the link above for more info.
