What is the Wayfinder program?

Wayfinder is a new alcohol and other drug support program in southeast Melbourne.

We created this program to offer you a new type of support as you recover from alcohol and other drugs, or get ready to do so.

In the Wayfinder program, you can attend groups and get one-on-one support based on what you need – making this a tailored program that treats you as an individual.

Our program is delivered at Windana in St Kilda (pictured here), SECADA in Dandenong and in Pakenham.

Wayfinder is run by SECADA – with Windana (that’s us), Odyssey House Victoria, TaskForce and YSAS all working together to deliver the program.

How can Wayfinder help me?

Wayfinder is designed to help you at any stage of your journey with alcohol and other drugs.

The program will help you to build life skills, recovery skills and connections in the community to help you reach your goals.

It can also be a pathway to other programs – including detox (withdrawal) and rehabilitation.

If you’re coming to join the Wayfinder program, we’ll work with you to prepare a treatment plan. Your plan will bring together the right mix of supports to help you make changes in the areas you want to work on.

During your time in the Wayfinder program, you can also dial up or down your support based on how you’re going.

Your unique Wayfinder program may include:

  • Supportive education groups about a wide range of topics like health, happiness, recovery, relationships and other areas of life
  • Mutual help groups (such as AA, NA, SMART Recovery, 12-step)
  • One-on-one counselling
  • Regular treatment planning and case management
  • Mentoring with Peer Workers (workers who have lived experience of alcohol and other drug use and recovery)
  • Making new links with organisations and groups in the community to create social connections that can play a positive role in your life
  • Support to detox (withdraw) at home
  • Groups for people experiencing mental health and alcohol and other drug challenges (Dual Diagnosis)
  • Family education (if you choose)
  • Therapy to promote behaviour in line with your goals (Contingency Management).

Wayfinder groups

On two days of the week, we run groups.

There are three types of group, and each includes modules on a variety of interesting and helpful topics:

  1. Introductory Psychoeducation Modules
Helping you better understand and manage health (physical, mental, emotional and social) and your relationship with alcohol and other drugs.
  2. Self-efficacy Modules
Building your power and belief in yourself to make positive changes and reach your goals.
  3. Recovery Capital Modules
Equipping you with the resources (including skills, knowledge, and links to other people and the community) to further your recovery.

Eligibility: Is this for me?

This is a question you won’t have to work out alone.

The Wayfinder program welcomes people at different stages of their journey with alcohol and other drugs.

If you’re interested in coming to Wayfinder and you contact us, or you are referred by a worker with your consent, we’ll have a chat with you to work out whether Wayfinder is a good fit for you.

In this process we can refer you to any other suitable programs you may be interested in, or begin to put together your unique Wayfinder plan.
