Hi, and welcome from the ResetLife Youth team! On this page you'll learn about our program for young people who want a future free from the harms of alcohol and other drugs.

Fast facts

  • Type of program: Groups three times per week (for about four months) followed by up to 36 weeks of ongoing support to keep you on track
  • Location: We run two ResetLife Youth programs, one at our Youth Hub in Moorabbin and the other at our building in Frankston
  • Cost: Free

What is ResetLife Youth?

ResetLife Youth is here to help people aged 11 to 25 overcome challenges with alcohol and other drugs, so they can reach their goals and live the life they want.

The program is split into two main parts:

Groups (four months)

This is the first part of the program, where you come to groups three times a week. The groups are made up of other young people at different points in their ResetLife Youth journeys, and our friendly staff. Our staff include Peer Workers – people who have been through experiences with alcohol and other drugs too.

The groups help you grow in three main areas:

  • Early recovery skills – Exploring how you can make healthy choices around drinking and drugs, understand your feelings and build a roadmap towards the life you want. This is where you develop the skills you need to stay sober – including understanding your relationship with alcohol/drugs and the development of self-management strategies.
  • Relapse prevention – Learning to know when alcohol and drugs may be a problem, and how you can stay on track.
  • Social support – Building your network of friends, family and supporters in the community who can help you reach your goals.

At the end of each young person’s four-month program, we celebrate how far they have come. This means getting together for a special afternoon (with pizza), having some fun and reflecting on accomplishments.

We currently run two groups that participants can choose between based on what works best – one at 12:00pm for people who are free during the day and and another at 4:00pm for people who are busy at school or working during the day.

ResetLife Youth Peer Worker

Continuing Care (36 weeks)

After you graduate from ResetLife Youth, you still have our support!

The Continuing Care phase goes for up to 36 weeks (about eight months).

It’s a time where you can come back and talk things through with our Peer Workers, to get support for whatever you’re going through at the time. This is a group for graduated participants to come together as part of a community to support each other. We engage in fun activities in these groups including bowling, rock climbing and mini golf.

This helps you avoid harm from alcohol and drugs, and keep working towards your goals.

How can ResetLife Youth help me?

ResetLife Youth is a new beginning for life without alcohol and other drugs.

Alongside groups, you’ll also have one-on-one support (including counselling) from a staff member who gets to know you well, called a Primary Therapist.

We also offer sessions with your family/support people (only with your consent), so that we can help strengthen relationships and make sure they understand your recovery and the journey you’re on.

We create a space that is welcoming and safe and where you can be yourself. As one past client said, “You come in and it’s like a little community!”

Groups and Continuing Care can help in many ways, including:

  • Spending time with Peer Workers who have been in your shoes before
  • Creating healthy, strong connections with other people
  • Connecting you with help for whatever you’re facing – such as mental health, problems at home, school or with the law
  • Strengthening families
  • Giving you the chance to try new things, including Art Therapy and group fitness.

ResetLife Youth group members also help other young people make progress. This is a rewarding experience too and helps build your confidence.
